I just sent an e-mail to Rob Fortier (Rappin`) about this, but thought I should post it here also to make sure it is seen.
The article by Jim Rizzo in the January 2012 issue titled "Fresh Horses" made me laugh, then made me cringe when I realized he missed another big issue with the swap.
He needs to pull that distributor back out asap. You see,the new motor uses a hydraulic roller camshaft that requires the use of a steel distributor gear. If you use the old cast-iron gear with the roller cam they will eat eachother up and just cause more problems.
You can also use a bronze gear, but those tend to wear out rather quick.

.. Not sure what Ford offers, for a small block Chevy we'd use a 'melonized' distributor gear for long life with a steel roller cam... some roller cams have a cast iron compatible gear on them...
.. He could have saved a fortune by just rebuilding his 289 and avoiding all the incompatible parts between different years of SBF's......
