i have been looking around for several other posts for TBI swaps from the many magazines...
there are a few... not a lot... that actually made it to the web from print versions..
a well written book was done by Jags that run... on TBI swaps... covers a LOT of the info needed...
and are you sure its a 1996 model year motor with a TBI fuel injection.. it will have a throttle body mounted under a conventional air cleaner with 2 fuel injectors down the middle with 4 wires to the 2 injectors... a 4 wire connector to a big device in the side and a 3 wire connector to the front..
1996 model motors would be a Vortec motor.. the upper part of the intake is plastic.. a single barrel throttle body without fuel injectors.. fuel lines and a big electrical connector straight down the middle of the upper plastic intake..
either motors can be swapped... and have been many times...
in my opinion.. you might be better off if the engine runs still.. with a change over to electronic ignition.. and possibly even a bolt on throttle body injection system...
