If you're talking about an T5 transmission , yes , the shifter can be moved forward to a more appropriate location . Apparently you have a Camaro ( or Firebird ) transmission ? It involves changing the tailshaft over to an S10 tailshaft . Go to http://www.customclassictrucks.com/techarticles/1101cct_overdrive_conversion_fit_for_classic_truck/index.html and read the entire article , good luck !

Seeing the "Vn Commodore" I can't help but think you might be working on a Holden product. Since the only true examples of the Aussie Holden sold in the States is the late Pontiac GTO that causes problems.
The T-5 trans comes in several "flavors". Mustangs, Camero, and Jeep all have the same basic trans but each is fitted with tail shaft housings, etc. to fit that vehicle.
You need to find out if your local scrap yards have an interchange manual that lists what applications have the T-5 and then examine each to see if you find one that has the parts you need for your modifications.
