Would like to know how to find the article that was in Rod and Custom 5 years ago or so.They took a 1980s model frame and modified to a 1950s car.All of my magazines were destroyed when the roof leaked in the attic.Seems like a easy swap.Just could use the article for a pointer or two.Maybe some one could copy the article for me.Thanks Rick

Sounds like one of the Winfield Merc projects. In VERY BASIC terms he takes a newer vehicle and cuts off the body several inches above the floor leaving the inner panels where possible. The old body is then lowered over the newer bottom (minus the original floor but inner panels and rockers intact) and trims to fit.
Of course this only works if the wheelbase of the new and old cars are close to the same.
The other version was to take a frame from (can't recall the date) mid-70's Ford Torino and modify the wheelbase by addiing to the side frames of the Torino (or take away length). Basically it required replacing the side frame rails with new rectangular tubing. I have seen this on several 48 Ford converts here in the Mid-West.
Using this method one does not always use the full width of the Torino frame, the new side rails are added at the corrct width for the old body, excess width cut away. Not as easy as using the Winfield method as you have to keep the torino frame's front and rear sections aligned while making the mods for the rectangular tubing side rails.
