Is it possible to attach a stock 1977 Ford speedometer (from a 1977 F100 truck) up to a GM TH400 transmission?

Can someone point me in the right direction of parts or expert advice?

Yes it's possible, go to the local parts store and get a universal speedo cable (cut to length and add the end).  After it's in run the car and if the speedometer is reading too high or too low remove the plastic gear in the transmission (at the end of the cable) and take to a trans shop and they can give you the right color and tooth count to correct your reading.
