Okay, here's the deal.

I have spent the last several months trying to figure out how to put disk brakes on my car, its a 53 Desoto, Firedome Sportman.

ECI Hot Rod brakes has a complete bolt on kit for $575., so thats the easy part.

The master cyl on the other hand is an unknown at this point. Let me explain my situation.

The car has the original motor and Fluid Torque Drive, which has the safety clutch. The safety clutch and the brake pedal both mount off the front of the original Master Cyl.

So, buying any after market master cyl set up whether power or manual causes an issue with the safety clutch mount. One option I guess is to fab up a custom bracket to hold the safety clutch pedal assembly.

I have considered upgrading to a more modern automatic but this isnt cheap and comes with new problems. The adaptor is almost 400 bucks and you have to use a modern starter, which is 12 volt and my car is still 6 volt, so I am hoping not to  go this direction.

Has anyone out there done this upgrade using the original master cyl and installing the residual pressue valves etc. that are required for the disk/drum brake set up. I can't seem to get an answer from anyone who has done this.

Oh, the other situation is it has the original power brake set up, I have no idea how this works so if someone would like to explain that would be great. Looking at it I can see the booster and it looks like the modern booster but the part that confuses me is why the brake lines run into it along with the vacuum lines.

Out back the original rear will be swapped out for an 8 3/4 mopar to take care of that brake upgrade. Just an fyi. T

Just curious, if you swap the rear end won't you have drveshaft problems?  I believe your present driveline is a torque tube which will require a lot of fabrication on the trans to convert to an open drive line.  Take a look through the Inliners forums at www.inliners.org , they have a seperate Mopar section.

Nope, it is an open drive line, easy swap for the 8.75 Mopar. I will check out the inliners section, Mine has a Hemi in it by the way.

Okay, I stand corrected, I think early Mopar I assume flathead 6, another source to look at is Fatmans Fabrication, they may have dropped spindlesfor your car that will accept a disc brake.

I am working on this same car, haveing brake issues. going to convert to discs in front from mp brakes. was going to swap an 9" or 8.8 with disc for the rear. what did you get your 8 3/4 out of?????.
As for the master...either a belcrank with spacer that moves master twords the rear.
mpbrakes recommended this master set up...

The other option was adaptor from wilcap 700r4 with manuel valve body, get ride of 12volt wire, the only thing would be the tv cable braket for line pressure(easy). as with the starter- I'm trying to find a solinoid and armature to retrofit- I don't know if it worth the hassel yet(or possible)...just got the car running...next step is to check the trans....
