I want to swap a 4.6L/AOD engine and tranny into my '60 T-bird.  The mechanics of it don't seem difficult, but I'm not sure about the engine wiring harness and computer use.

Anyone have ideas or experience in using OEM EMC and harness or aftermarket components?

I am doing the same swap in a '57 Ford and have read many articles on this . So far this monthes issue of HOT ROD has a good article on a carb/manifold and electronics swap but doesn't have any info. on trans. controllers. I found one at http://www.becontrols.com/index.htm if you want to go carbed. Mostly I have not found a kit to easily assimilate this motor to our older cars like the LS chevies or 5.0 litres. Also you are going to likely need a front sump pan. I found the nos. for the factory ford pieces at http://www.wurthitdesigns.com/ thsi site has a plethora of great items and ideas for your car. These three places should give you a real headstart on this swap. Let me know if you find a an easy kit. I plan on sitting down with a good wiring diagram and a set of wire cutters and building my own harness as I have a complete one from my donor vehicle. I also want to integrate the 97 dash pod into my '57 dash so this adds to my dilemma.

Thanks for the post, GeoFordMan.

I haven't found any conversion kits at all for this swap.  I'm going to try to take the harness from my 96 and transfer it to the 60 without cutting it.  I also have a line on a T-45 tranny I may use instead of the AOD.

I was also thinking of using my 96 dash as well.

The links you provided are a great help!  Thanks, again.

We did this swap in our 1948 Ford using the stock wiring harness. Give me a shout when you are ready. We can probably give you some useful info.
