Who uses it, and who uses regular insurance? What has been your experience.

Regular insurance companies will depreciate your ride to the point that you get nothing back in case something happens, "BUT" collector car insurance will cover you for a greater value but don't want you to drive it.  Most have a limit on the number of miles or days you can drive it a month, you can get it increased but they don't want the collector car to be your main means of transportation. So I drive with regular insurance and drive defensivley.

Yeah, dealing with insurance on an older car can be tricky, regular insurance doesn't understand the value of older cars, so if something happens you could get only a couple thousand. I think most of the Collector insurance companies are pretty generous with the mileage.

Ekimball is right. Collector car insurance companies are getting more generous with mileage, but they typically have restrictions on usage—you have to be driving to a car show or cruise night or Sunday drive, stuff like that. Driving to work or to the store is not allowed. If your hot rod is daily transportation, you’re probably going to have to stick with regular insurance, with its higher premiums and depreciation on the value for your car over time. If you’re shopping for regular insurance, try going to an independent agent. Go in person with your car and with any documentation pointing to its value, and let the agent (aka your new pal) help you find the best deal for your situation.
