I'm not a welder but I watched my buddy build a 27 T roadster and I liked his approach. He mocked everything up on blocks, stands. Wheels, front axle, susp, etc. and had everything where he wanted it before he ever built the frame. He reverse engineered the frame, making it out of 2x4 rectangular tubing he made it fit under the body and eng.  and to the suspension without having to compromise later for radiator, firewall, gas tank etc.

Anyway I think that's how I would build it, get the body looking like I want it, stance, wheels, proportions, then build the frame to fit the car.

Great ideas and executions. Keep it coming. If you're going this far you might as well do the frame to.

It's only metal, It does not know if it is on a 50 Merc, or on a Lambo. Make it do what you want.
